What is your school roll?

Our optimum roll, set as part of our enrollment scheme, is 445 students.

How many classrooms do you have?

We have 20 classrooms and a media suite.

How many children are in each class?

Class size varies by year group. Normally our class sizes are:

New entrant (year 0):  16 - 20

Years 1 and 2:  22 - 27

Years 3 and 4:  28 - 30

Years 5 and 6:  28 - 30

Do you have a school uniform?

We have a compulsory school uniform. You can purchase this through The Warehouse.

Is there any bullying at Taradale Primary School?

If bullying means physical stand-over tactics of big children over small children, the answer is no. There is no tolerance of any bullying behaviour at our school. Like any school, children sometimes argue with each other, resulting in hurt feelings. We deal with any bullying behaviour quickly and effectively.

How will I know how my child is doing?

You are welcome to meet with your child's teacher at any time. We also hold a 'meet the teacher' evening in February. In terms 2 and 3, your child will bring home a learning sample folder for your review. Written reports are issued at the end of the year.

How many computers are in each classroom?

Each classroom has at least four computers. We also have a media suite of desktop and laptop computers that children use as part of the ICT programme. We run the BYOD (bring your own device) programme for our year 5 and 6 classes where most students have their own chromebook (Google) device. See here for more information about BYOD.

Do you have a school newsletter?

Our school newsletter is emailed home every Thursday afternoon. You can also download a copy of the newsletter from our website.

Do you have a before-school and after-school care programme?

Afcare (YMCA) has operated a terrific after-school programme at Taradale Primary School since 2001. The programme is OSCAR-approved, and runs from 3.30 - 5.00pm. Before-school care is starting in 2016. To contact the YMCA, please visit www.ymcahb.org.nz or phone 027 204 8909.

When can my child start school?

Your child may start school on his or her fifth birthday. We are legally not allowed to enrol any children before they turn 5. To enrol you child, we will need to see

- proof of identity (the child's birth certificate or passport)

- proof of residence in the enrolment zone (for example, a power or phone bill which shows the family's residential address)

- the child's immunization certificate
